Filmmaker & Photographer
Hi! My name is Abel Donath, and I'm a beginner filmmaker, video editor, and photographer. I've always loved editing videos, like old gaming videos with friends when I was 11, and just making videos for fun. When I was 14, I got my first camera, a Canon EOS M50 MkII, and started taking photos and videos on family vacations. From that moment on, I knew my passion was photography and videography.
Another thing I really enjoy is going to concerts with friends, where I can combine my love for filming and photography with my passion for music. When I was 15, I started going to concerts more often and discovered how much I loved them. I wanted to capture the moment in a fun way, so for my second concert I bought a small hand camcorder. I filmed the concert while still fully enjoying it and made my first small aftermovie, which I was really proud of at the time and made me want to do more.
After that, I bought a VHS tape camcorder because I loved the old aesthetic and old-school hip-hop vibes. From that moment on, I kept growing, from sneaking my camera into bigger concerts to eventually getting my first official photo job at Jev.'s show in Amsterdam. I hope to get many more opportunities and keep building my career further.
In 2025 I started my study Film (Av-Specialist) at Cibap in Zwolle, and I'm really enjoying it so far. What I love most is working with different cameras and learning new techniques every day. The school has a lot of professional equipment I can use, which helps me try out things I couldn't do before, I also really like being around other students who are just as passionate about film, it makes it easy to make friends and learn from each other.
In school, I've been working on different projects like interviews, short films, and writing scripts. I've also learned a lot about photography compositions and working with programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, which has helped me grow as a creative. One of the biggest things I've improved on is color grading and having a more consistent workflow, which makes my work look way more professional.
I want to work in the commercial world later on, making things like company videos and advertisements. I've already done a project for a cooking school through Cibap, and that really showed me this is what I want to do. Every day I'm learning more, trying new things, and working toward building a career doing what I love most.
